The image of braces is a negative one. You picture a mouth full of metal and wires, for people who have had braces, they can only remember an uncomfortable and sometimes painful experience. Mostly, it represents some sort of social awkwardness; something that makes the person with braces different; not a positive, unique different, but rather unattractive different. Finally, braces are very uniform. Everyone knows what braces are because they are the same on everyone. There is no uniqueness or individuality to them.
