Me, Myself and I 925 Silver, Mirror, 2008

With these works, I wanted to address the duality of human existence, such as good and evil, and mind and body. The duality of human existence is something that I have always been interested in exploring in my work. These works represent the mirror image of a human figure. However, it is impossible to discern which side is the real image, and which side is the mirror image. Part of my inspiration came from the Rorschach Ink Blot Test, which requires the viewer to identify an image from a blot that has been made on a folded piece of paper. It seems like our lives are filled with such tests where we are required to seek out our identities. I wanted to capture the ambiguities and conflict that we sometimes undergo with our own self-identity. In place of the stone, each of the rings has a depiction of scenes that highlight our life experiences. These episodes are often described as character-building moments.
In some of the scenes, we see two figures struggling with their backs to each other. This represents the conflict we undergo in these critical moments of our lives; often they are characterized by a struggle from within. However, just as the figures would fall to the ground if they were not locked in this stance, I believe we too would falter if we did not continually struggle with ourselves.
